Due to an increased workload, we are expanding our business, and we are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, studious and observant individual for the role of Trainee Occupational Hygienist to join our team based in Wales and the North West.

Roles and Responsibilities
The role will initially be shadowing our qualified and experienced occupational hygienists whilst they carry out site work, to gain practical experience and provide a thorough understanding of the services that we provide to our clients, including a strong emphasis on technical report writing.
A training period of approximately 6 months would need to be completed, before attending industry specific formal courses via the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), in order to obtain the relevant qualifications needed for unsupervised site work.
This training period would include a significant amount of study/revision/exam time to become familiar with the various HSE approved sampling procedures and relevant UK legislation, this is needed to compliment the site experience gained through shadowing and enable you to fully understand each service.
Once fully trained the role will involve carrying out inspections such as workplace air monitoring, noise surveys and Local Exhaust Ventilation testing. Further inspections such as Legionella sampling and Vibration (HAV’s) may also be required.
You will be required to arrange ordering and submitting sampling media with our third party laboratories. Ensure the correct test/sampling methods are used for each specific project and provide a good and reliable service for any of our client’s needs.
Accurately recording test results, technical documents, specifications, risk assessments and method statements, presenting findings to the customer in a report and providing factual and impartial advice where required.
Person Specification
Ideally the successful candidate will possess the following attributes:
• A minimum of one BOHS qualification is required within any of these modules:
M503 (W503) – Noise measurement & its effects. (IOSH equivalent or IOA certificate also acceptable)
OR
M501 (W501) – Measurement of hazardous substances
OR
IP601(P601) – Thorough examination and testing of Local exhaust ventilation systems.
• Proficient in using IT including Excel, Microsoft Office, Word.
• A strong scientific background at “A” level standard and a science-based degree is preferred but not essential.
• Be highly motivated and show initiative, as some studying will be expected outside of normal working hours in order to meet deadlines for exams etc.
• Must be able to demonstrate good time management skills and organisational skills.
• Have excellent oral communication skills and be capable of writing clear, well presented, and accurate reports.
• Have the ability to work to deadlines.
• Have an understanding of basic Health and Safety requirements within the UK, regarding employee protection and employers’ duties.
• Hold a full clean driving licence (please confirm you have a full licence on your CV or covering letter). Although no vehicle will be offered during the initial training period, mileage will be paid and once competency is achieved, a company car will be provided.
• Have a flexible approach to weekly working hours, as the role can require early starts and/or late finishes.
• Willingness to travel around the UK with overnight stays on occasion, staying in paid accommodation.
• Home based working for any client reports/ administrational tasks.
• Have a strong customer focussed work ethic, an exemplary professional attitude and be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills.
• Be willing to provide an enhanced DBS disclosure, the cost of which will be reimbursed by the company.
